For example. Asking a question about what someone likes. Such as type of food. The answer will always tell you what food they like. Pros of this are that you get a statistic of your answers. A con is that you get no reason for the answers.
A video game company will use data like this by introducing a survey to a viewer of the official site for the game. These surveys will allow the company to gather more information about who are anticipating the game, what they want from the game or other questions the developers have for the audience. These questions will then give data to the developers. Helping improve the game while it is still in development.
Qualitative questions- These questions will tell you why.-For example these questions will tell you why someone likes that food. Pro of this research is that you get a reason for the answers. Con is that if you had many answers then you would need to carry a lot of paper if you were travelling which isn't efficient.
These questions can be added on to Quantitive questions in the same format as before so the developers will get more in depth answers for what they want. Also, these questions can be used in interviews by video game journalists such as IGN for getting more information on a project for the audience.
Primary- Primary research is acquiring data first hand from your target audience. Such as experiments and investigations. Pros of this are that you are getting honest data first hand. Con of this is that it came take a lot of time and it could be more efficient to use secondary research.
Video Game Journalists can use this type of research to get information from sources about an upcoming game or event. For example, they can go to a gaming expo and get information there about the expo by experiencing it first hand. Also, like I mentioned before, an interview is also primary research which can be used by journalists.
Secondary-This is the most collected research, it is collecting evidence from other primary researchers. This means you are finding your statistics from third party sources. Pros of this are that you can collect your information quickly but a con is that the info can be inaccurate. To get secondary research you can visit sites such as UKIE to get your information.
In the gaming industry, developers can use this, to see what people thought of games similar to what they are creating or what people thought of the previous games in their franchise. Also, other people, like customers will use secondary research to have a look at a game they want. they will look at the reviews on the game.
